I thought it might be fun with each page to show what the penciled, inked and then colored pages look like. You’ve seen the colored finished page 31, so here are the penciled and inked pages!
The Penciled Page
On this page, I penciled things without a lot of detail since I knew a lot would be in “post production” (lines for walls and such). I always throw a blue layer over the pencils (at 50% opacity) so that when I am inking, I can easily distinguish between the black lines for inking and the background.
The Inked Page
This page was fun because it transitioned from the dream sequence on the previous page to the real time with Greyhawk, incorporating the same face from the last panel of the previous page (used similarly in the last Greyhawk and the Starbucklers story). The passage of time allowed me to give our hero the “piratey” facial hair that my wife and daughters really liked on Greyhawk– a visual key that things have changed. A lot of fun things are added at the end in Photoshop. Gradations, filters, etc.
At the request of readers Arlene and Lochniall, we’ve set up a Cafe Press shop with Wannabe Pirates and Starbucklers T-shirts, mugs, etc.! Currently we’ve got FIVE different designs and we might even add a few more!

The Dallas Webcomics Expo is now StripCon and the 3rd annual show is this Saturday, August 6th and I’ll be there! I’ll be bringing out some books to sell (including the original 1997 GREYHAWK AND THE STARBUCKLERS OF THE CARIBBEAN graphic novel!) and I’ll also be showing something cool that’s not ready to be seen here yet!
